Borrowing privileges are suspended when an active patron has either five (5) items or materials valued at $50 or more overdue or billed. Borrowing privileges are reinstated when the outstanding materials are returned, renewed, or paid resulting in the patron having less than five (5) items outstanding or the value of the outstanding items are less than $50. Once a year, a list of items declared lost with their original and not depreciated value will be presented to the Library District Governing Board for the purpose of removing the billed amount from the respective patron record. Materials declared lost will be removed from the Library District’s catalog, and cleared from a patron’s record. Lost Materials Defined For an active patron, outstanding materials will be declared lost if three (3) years have passed since the item was first determined to be overdue and the item is the last copy the Library District owns and has not been returned, or the bill has not been paid, or the account has not been otherwise settled. For an inactive patron (a person who has not used his/her library card in more than three (3) years), outstanding materials will be declared lost when the total bill is less than $200, the materials are more than three (3) years overdue, and the patron card has been inactive for one (1) year or longer. Management will give top priority to correcting unsafe conditions. Management may discipline an employee who willfully or repeatedly violates workplace safety rules. Disciplinary action may include written reprimands, and may ultimately result in termination of employment. Library Membership in Community and Civic Organizations -A +A Approved by: Board of Trustees 8/21/02; 11/18/09 Approved by: Governing Board 10/24/02; 12/10/09 Policy The Library District plays an active role in the community by making connections allegra cole from hitch and developing relationships with local civic, cultural and educational organizations, both public and private. To this end, the Library District staff attends and/or participates in the activities of certain community organizations that may require membership fees. On June 13, 2002 the Library District Governing Board declared payment of memberships in local Alachua County community and civic organizations as a public purpose. The Library Director will make the final decision on which organizations the Library District joins and, if appropriate, designate a staff representative to the organization.
